EEBA’s Year in Review: Celebrating Growth, Achievement, and New Initiatives

As we close out the year, the Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) reflects on an incredible journey of growth, innovation, and community. Through comprehensive educational programs, successful events, and new initiatives, EEBA has strengthened its commitment to advancing high-performance building practices. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the past year and how EEBA has worked to support and empower residential building professionals across the nation.

Regional Training

Education remains a cornerstone of EEBA’s mission, and in 2024, we amplified our efforts with targeted regional training sessions in markets such as Colorado, Massachusetts, and Minnesota to address the evolving needs of builders and developers. Notably, our Zero Energy Ready Home Version 2 and ENERGY STAR NextGen Builder Training brought cutting-edge high-performance building techniques directly to local professionals. This two-day event provided in-depth instruction on energy modeling, airtight construction, and other critical practices required to meet Zero Energy Ready Home and ENERGY STAR standards. Led by Gord Cooke, the program combined interactive workshops and practical guidance to empower attendees with the skills and knowledge to implement sustainable, energy-efficient building strategies. These regional trainings not only elevated professional expertise but also strengthened EEBA’s connection with local communities, fostering a shared commitment to advancing high-performance construction practices nationwide.

2024 High Performance Home Builder Summit

This year’s High Performance Home Builder Summit, held in Salt Lake City, became a focal point of learning and networking for industry leaders, builders, and professionals. The Summit offered a series of in-depth sessions and workshops that covered a broad range of topics, including zero carbon and electrification, high performance home technologies, water efficiency strategies, and more. Attendees had the chance to gain insights into cutting-edge research, network with like-minded peers, and participate in demonstrations on the latest technologies. Beyond structured sessions, the event provided ample opportunities for attendees to build relationships and share insights through networking mixers, discussion panels, and roundtable events. These interactions fostered a spirit of collaboration, allowing builders to learn from one another and inspire positive change within the industry. The Summit reinforced EEBA’s dedication to being a central hub for high-performance building knowledge, and we’re thrilled to continue this momentum in future Summits.

Building Excellence Awards

A highlight of the year was the Building Excellence Awards, which celebrated outstanding achievements in high-performance building. Award categories recognized excellence in healthier homes, electrification, resiliency, and decarbonization. By honoring these exceptional projects, EEBA aims to inspire the next generation of builders to innovate and uphold high-performance standards that benefit both the environment and homeowners. Congratulations to Empire Communities, Thrive Home Builders, RIoT Technology, and KB Home for their extraordinary commitment to advancing sustainable building practices and receiving EEBA Excellence Awards.

Launch of the Builder Sustainability Leadership Group (BSLG)

In 2024, EEBA introduced the Builder Sustainability Leadership Group (BSLG) as an extension of the Builder Benchmark Group (BBG), designed to empower builders in driving sustainability initiatives. This dynamic group unites industry leaders—CEOs, CSOs, VPs, and Directors—to collaborate, share insights, and tackle real-world challenges. With a strong focus on peer learning and mentorship, BSLG has already garnered enthusiastic feedback for providing actionable strategies that support high-performance building practices. EEBA is excited to expand this impactful program, strengthening its support for builders at both regional and national levels in advancing sustainable construction.

Looking Ahead

As we look forward to the next year, EEBA remains steadfast in its mission to lead, educate, and inspire the building industry toward a future of sustainability and high performance. The milestones we’ve reached this year are only the beginning, and we are excited to continue supporting the building community with even more regional training programs, initiatives, and opportunities for quality connection.
